Tooth Sensitivity

You may have sensitive teeth if your teeth become painful to: hot, cold, sweet, sour, touch, or air.  The pain is usually not constant, but comes and goes.

Apart from a cavity or a missing filling, the most common cause of sensitivity is exposed root surfaces (or dentin).  Normally the sensitive dentin is protected by your enamel and gums.  You may experience sensitivity when the enamel wears away or your gums recede, exposing the root.  This exposure can be caused by:

»  Brushing too hard

»  Recession of the gums

»  Gum disease

»  Cracked teeth

»  Grinding your teeth

We have solutions that can help with tooth sensitivity. Please contact our dentists for more information.
